A battling CD Teruel stand up to UD Ibiza and take a point at Pinilla (1-1)

CD Teruel took a point against UD Ibiza (1-1) on Sunday at the Estadio Pinilla, on matchday eleven of the Primera Federación. Daniel González's side, in his first home game, went toe to toe with one of the promotion contenders: they dominated the first half, responded immediately to Pedro Ortiz's goal for the visitors with a penalty converted by Sergio Moreno and held on to the draw until the end. The match also saw Bebé's debut in the Rojillo shirt.

Daniel González opted for Palop in goal and a back five, with Borge, Nathanael and Joserra in the middle, Edu Gallardo and Lluís Llácer as wing-backs, Albisua and Hugo Redón in midfield, and Goyo and Mario Sesé behind Sergio Moreno. CD Teruel came out with great intensity, pressed high and did not let Ibiza settle on the ball. The Rojillos mainly looked down the flanks: Llácer delivered the first dangerous cross and, after a quarter of an hour, a move between Borge and Sergio Moreno put Mario Sesé in a shooting position, although his very awkward effort went wide.

CD Teruel controlled the first half, getting in behind down the flanks. The clearest chance fell to Sergio Moreno, who met an Edu Gallardo cross just wide of the post. Ibiza only threatened from set pieces and the break arrived goalless.

The second half started at a frantic pace. Straight after the restart, Borge won the ball and crossed for Sergio Moreno, but a defender deflected it at the last moment. In the next move, Pedro Ortiz headed in a corner at the far post to put Ibiza ahead in the 48th minute. The Rojillo response was immediate: barely four minutes later, the referee awarded CD Teruel a penalty and Sergio Moreno calmly converted it to make it 1-1 in the 52nd minute.

From then on, Ibiza had more of the ball and a fully committed CD Teruel looked to counter. Daniel González brought on Sander Ballero and Bebé, who made his Rojillo debut and showed touches of quality and presence in attack in his first minutes. Neither side found a winner and, in stoppage time, Nathanael received a second yellow card. CD Teruel take a point against one of the top sides and are already preparing for their next fixture, away at Atlético Madrileño on Sunday, 15 November, at 12:00.
