Sergio Moreno: «This is the moment, I have to go down in Teruel's history»

Sergio Moreno spoke to the media ahead of the derby against Real Zaragoza, which will be played this Sunday 4 October at 21:00 at the Ibercaja Estadio on matchday six of the Primera Federación. The Rojillo striker talked about the motivation in the dressing room and in the city, the step forward the team took against Huesca and his desire to open his scoring account in precisely this match.

The forward recalled that it will be the first time the two teams meet in the league and highlighted the atmosphere surrounding the game: «You can feel it's a derby. You can feel it in the city, you can feel it in the dressing room. They will come out at 100% and so will we». On the draw against SD Huesca, he described it as «positive reinforcement» after a difficult start: «We saw a compact, competitive team that, until the 70th minute, was clearly winning the match».

Sergio Moreno stressed the importance of the first goal of the season in a division where, he said, scoring is not easy, and even less so for CD Teruel: «We are a team that, out of the three or four chances we get, has to score one, and then be very competitive in defence». On the opposition, he called for calm about league starts, both Teruel's and Zaragoza's, describing the latter as «a hell of a team, with a hell of a budget and a hell of a squad». The key, he explained, is to be patient, make the match long, force them into mistakes and take the chances.

The striker was honest about his physical condition. He admitted he is not where he would like to be after a difficult pre-season and a start to the league along the same lines, but made his commitment clear: «Those of you who know me know it: whatever battery I have left, I'll give until it runs out». As for the rest of the squad, he said they are very motivated and eager after the Huesca match.

As one of the leaders of the dressing room, Sergio Moreno explained the message he has passed on to his teammates, especially the younger ones. «If we take the field on Sunday at nine at night against Zaragoza thinking about scraping something or about not conceding three, better not to go out at all», he said. «I'm going to go out thinking I'm the best of the 22, and my teammate has to think the same. And if they win because they're better, I'll shake their hand, have a shower and go home. But if you don't go out thinking you're the best, you're not cut out for this».

The striker wants the team seen against Huesca to show up again at the Ibercaja Estadio, convinced that this is how they can win. He closed his press conference with a statement of intent he had already shared with a friend: «This is the moment. I have to go down in Teruel's history by scoring against Zaragoza. And it's a good way to get off the mark this season».
