Historic pre-season win: CD Teruel beat Valencia CF in Paterna (0-1)

CD Teruel claimed a hugely deserving victory in their fourth friendly of pre-season on Tuesday, beating La Liga side Valencia CF 0-1 at the Paterna training ground. A win that rewards the work, organisation and personality of Kiko Ramírez's men against top-level opposition.

The coach started Zarco; Borge, Pablo Felipe, Joserra and Nathaniel; Gallardo, Romera, Albisua and Redón; with Mario Sesé and Sergio Moreno up front. The team threatened inside the first minute and, from there, produced an exemplary display of solidity: a compact block, constant support and counter-attacks that caused Valencia real problems.

Zarco delivered another outstanding performance, dealing confidently with every Valencia approach. And not only that: the goalkeeper started the move for the rojillo goal with a precise long ball. Edu Gallardo, alert and decisive, beat the keeper to the ball and finished with a beautiful chip to put CD Teruel ahead. Before the break, Sergio Moreno went close to a second on another well-built counter.

In the second half the team kept the same plan and the same concentration. Gallardo tried another chip that drifted just wide, and from the hour mark Relu, Lluís Llácer and Álvaro López came on to freshen up the defence and midfield. The rojillos defended Valencia's late push with real craft, backed by another set of fine saves from Zarco, and could even have extended the lead with a superbly executed counter saved by the home keeper.

The team keeps building very positive momentum in its preparation and now looks forward with confidence to the next fixture: this Sunday 16 August, at 6:30 pm, against SD Huesca in Tardienta. Congratulations to the players and coaching staff on a night to remember. Vamos Teruel! ❤️💙
