Goyo rescues a stoppage-time point against Águilas at Pinilla (1-1)

CD Teruel took a point against Águilas FC (1-1) in a highly charged match at the Estadio Pinilla on matchday nine of the Primera Federación. Kiko Ramírez's side were chasing the game for almost the entire match after Mario Abenza's goal for the visitors, and got their reward in stoppage time thanks to a header from Goyo Medina, who had come off the bench.

Kiko Ramírez started with the eleven that beat AD Alcorcón: Zarco in goal; Borge, Nathanael, Álvaro López and Joserra in defence; Relu and Albisua in the double pivot; and Mario Sesé, Hugo Redón and Edu Gallardo behind Sergio Moreno. The clash between two direct rivals began at high intensity, with two FVS reviews in the opening minutes of an incident in the Rojillo box, which the referee resolved without a sanction.

Águilas struck first. In the 17th minute, from a corner, Mario Abenza sent a header just inside the far post past Zarco. CD Teruel responded with character and Mario Sesé became the team's driving force down the wing. One of his runs produced the corner from which Albisua bundled the ball into the net, although the goal was disallowed for a positional offside. The captain, Relu, was injured in the same move and had to make way for Miguel Romera in the 33rd minute.

From then on, CD Teruel took control of the ball and the match. The Rojillos pushed Águilas back towards their own box, played in the opposition half and kept arriving against a side that defended with plenty of players behind the ball. Despite eight minutes of added time, the equaliser did not come before the break, but the team went in at half-time feeling better than at the start.

After the restart, the game opened up again with two more FVS reviews, one for each side, including a possible penalty on Edu Gallardo that was not given. Kiko Ramírez turned to his bench and brought on Sander Ballero, just back from injury, in place of Albisua. Águilas looked to settle it on the counter and Javi Castedo was through on his own against Zarco, but the Rojillo goalkeeper produced a superb diving save to keep his side alive.

With CD Teruel pushing forward and time running out, the substitutions paid off. Goyo and Santi Borikó came on in the 79th minute and were decisive in the equaliser. In stoppage time, Borikó combined with Andrés Borge down the right and the full-back delivered a perfect cross that Goyo Medina headed into the net to make it 1-1 and spark celebrations at Pinilla. CD Teruel, who dominated possession (74 %) and completed 471 passes, take a point and keep their hopes of closing in on safety alive.

The Rojillos are already thinking about their next fixture, away at UE Sant Andreu at the Narcís Sala on Saturday, 31 October, at 16:00.
