CD Teruel fall to Real Zaragoza at the Ibercaja Estadio after taking the lead through a Sergio Moreno penalty (4-1)

CD Teruel lost to Real Zaragoza this Sunday at the Ibercaja Estadio (4-1), on matchday six of the Primera Federación and in the second Aragonese derby of the season. Sergio Moreno put the Rojillos ahead from the penalty spot in the opening minutes, but the hosts turned the game around with goals just before half-time and straight after the restart, and the league leaders extended their advantage in the last quarter of an hour against a CD Teruel side that competed with character right to the end.

Kiko Ramírez named the same starting XI that drew with SD Huesca: Zarco in goal; Borge, Álvaro López, Nathanael and Joserra in defence; Relu, Albisua and Hugo Redón in midfield; and Sergio Moreno, Gallardo and Mario Sesé up front.

As seven days earlier, the team came out with determination and were rewarded very early. A move down the left involving Joserra and Sesé ended with Sergio Moreno brought down in the box by goalkeeper Anartz Peña; the referee awarded the penalty after a VAR review and the Navarrese striker calmly converted it to make it 0-1 (6th minute). With the lead in hand, Relu dropped between the centre-backs to give the team solidity, while Zaragoza tried to combine through the middle with Ademo, Terrer, Ureña and Rubén Díez.

The Rojillos had a chance to make it 0-2 from a perfect Sesé corner that Nathanael headed towards goal, only for Peña to save. In the closing minutes of the first half Zaragoza pushed higher up the pitch and, in stoppage time, a move down the right between Jardí, Rubén Díez and Espiau ended with a rebound that Óscar Ureña turned in to level the game (45+7th minute).

Right after the restart, Edu Espiau headed in a cross from Diego González to make it 2-1 (47th minute). CD Teruel responded with resolve: Relu moved back into midfield, and Borge's forward runs together with Sesé and Gallardo carrying the ball took the team into the opposition half in search of an equaliser. Kiko Ramírez made three changes in the 62nd minute, bringing on Goyo, Lluís Llácer and Moraitis for Joserra, Gallardo and Sergio Moreno, and Moraitis came close to 2-2 with a header from a Relu free kick. The Greek striker finished the match carrying a knock after a collision with Diego González.

In the last quarter of an hour, Zaragoza extended their lead through Pau Sans (77th minute), set up by Jardí, and Jaume Jardí himself (85th minute), set up by Hugo Pinilla, a goal confirmed after a VAR review. Romera and Belevonis also came on in the closing stages.

CD Teruel have two points after six matchdays and will look for their first win of the season next Saturday, 10 October, at 18:30 at the Estadio Pinilla against AD Alcorcón. A week to work, recover and keep growing with the support of the fans.
